Promoting Workforce Diversity

PROJECT TITLE

Gateway Project

DESCRIPTION

This is a collaborative project involving Brent managers in primary healthcare, social services, housing, learning disability services and mental health. Working with Brent in2 Work, it creates pathways linked with job training to prepare local people for recruitment into identified vacancies in the partner organisations.

PRIORITY

Priority will be given to groups which currently suffer disadvantages in gaining access to employment. The project is looking forward to working with Brent Fair Cities to recruit from black and minority ethnic communities in the borough. It is also spotlighting the varying needs of disabled residents.

WHERE ARE WE?

  • A steering group is drawing up detailed proposals and resources have been identified;
  • The first pilot pre-employment training programme is likely to be related to vacancies in disability services from March-April 2006.
  • PROJECT TITLE

    Local Recruitment Toolkit

    DESCRIPTION

    This toolkit was published in June 2005 as part of a programme of work to encourage GP practices and Primary Care Trusts in NW London to consider more carefully the recruitment needs of local people, particularly those who experience disadvantages in gaining access to employment.

    PRIORITY

    The toolkit is particularly aimed at organisations (public sector, voluntary or independent) which want to improve their recruitment processes. It is simple, colourful and full of practical tips. GP practices, dental practices, community pharmacies, as well as health, social care, and housing managers, will find much of interest in it.

    WHERE ARE WE?

  • Copies of the toolkit are available from the Teaching PCT office, complete with a CD Rom or floppy disk containing sample forms for recruitment purposes.   To download a copy in PDF format, click here.
